In 2020, the global sneaker market soared to a value of $79 billion, and projections indicate a staggering rise to $120 billion by 2026. Despite this booming industry, a concerning trend emerges — out of the 23 billion pairs of shoes manufactured annually, a staggering 22 billion end up in landfills. This environmental impact is exacerbated by the continuous influx of new designs, fueled by the expanding Sneakerhead culture and rising trainer consumption. In a speculative project, I introduced a service to address the environmental impact of discarded shoes. Partnering with local shoe stores, I proposed the installation of bins for customers to deposit unwanted shoes. Donors would receive store discounts tracked through an app, promoting recycling and backing the initiative. This speculative project seeks to actively mitigate the environmental consequences associated with discarded shoes.

Reshoed, a service-based company, places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The service provides customers with a convenient solution to exchange shoe waste for discounts at partnering stores. Utilise the app to collect and store discounts for future use. Actively collecting and recycling shoe waste, Reshoed promotes sustainable practices, giving users peace of mind about the environmental impact of discarded shoes.

The logo incorporates puzzle pieces, symbolising the interconnected components of the project. Each piece signifies a crucial aspect, representing the collaborative efforts involved in the initiative. From individuals contributing their shoe waste to local stores providing collection bins, these pieces fit together to create a unified and sustainable solution. The puzzle metaphor communicates that every small action contributes to the larger picture of environmental responsibility and sustainable practices, making the project a comprehensive and interconnected solution.

The app revolutionises shoe shopping by offering users the opportunity to trade in their old pairs for discounts on their next purchase. With a simple interface, users can easily locate participating stores nearby using the 'Find Store' feature, conveniently access store websites, and seamlessly save or spend their accrued discounts. Say hello to a smarter, more sustainable way to upgrade your shoe collection!
